HISTORIC OLD FORT BENTON
|
On the banks of the Missouri River stands a square bastion and fragments of the walls of old Fort Benton. The ruins of this old American Fur Company post forms one of the points of greatest interest to be found between the Mississippi River and the Pacific coast. The original North East Bastion or Blockhouse has been restored. It is opened to the public each summer for viewing. The site is currently under archaeological
study and replicas of the buildings are being constructed. Each
excavation season, you can watch the archaeologists and volunteers do their work and view their most
recent findings. |
